Mishka Mishka Mishka

Mishka * Reserved * at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Female Black and white Husky cross Collie who is age 6 years

Not Good With Children Not Good With Other Pets Not Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 17/086 Approx Age: 6 years

Description

There is no doubt about it, Mishka is absolutely beautiful. It does however take her a while to feel comfortable around strangers. She has come from a home with two adults but proved very uncomfortable around children. Mishka is reactive towards dogs and has never shared her space with other pets. This bonnie girl cannot be trusted near sheep or livestock as she does have a predatory streak. Mishka is house trained and tends to only toilet on grass. She enjoys going in the car and once she has gained your trust, she has a very affectionate side.

History

Mishka's owner have had to make the very difficult decision to rehome her. She has proven very predatory toward sheep and after trying their hardest to help her with her behavioural issues, they feel they can no longer give her the attention she requires.

Re-homing Criteria

We are looking for an owner who has experience with husky or working stock collies and who is able to commit to her training and socialising. Mishka needs a home without children and where she won't come into contact with sheep. Ideally, someone who can give Mishka their full one to one attention and understands that she can be reactive when out on walks. She is in search of an owner who will use reward based training with her.

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Mishka simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Description

Neo is a very enthusiastic boy who loves to play! Give him a toy and he is your pal! Neo is very full on so may not be for the faint hearted! He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle up with you and give you a kiss! This energetic boy is strong on the lead and is looking for an active owner. He is housetrained and although is not used to the car, he travels fairly well. Neo is reactive to dogs and has not lived with other animals before. He loves his walks and will make a fab companion!

History

Neo was originally brought to us in 2015 due to a change in circumstances. He was adopted in 2015 but has sadly had to be brought back as his adopter was no longer in a position to give him the exercise he needs.

Rocko Rocko Rocko

Rocko at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male White with black Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is age 4 years

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 17/218 Approx Age: 4 years

Description

Rocko is a typical energetic, affectionate staffie. Although he likes children, he is very full on so would so we feel he would suit an adult only home due to his boisterousness. Rocko is friendly towards most female dogs but is reactive towards male dogs. His re-call is fair but he does pull strongly on the lead. We don't know what Rocko is like with cats. Rocko loves treats and is coming on well with his reward based training.  He loves to be bathed and brushed. Rocko loves human company at home.

History

Rocko has had a couple of homes and is now ready for his forever home.

Re-homing Criteria

Rocko needs a confident, experienced staffie home where he can get the exercise and training he needs. He is a lovely boy and although he appears to be toilet trained at the kennels, his last owners said he wasn’t clean in their house. We do feel that with the right environment - this shouldn’t be an issue.

Lucy Lucy Lucy

Lucy at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Female Black with White Lurcher who is age 1 year

Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 17/246
Approx Age: 1 year

Description

Lucy is a very nervous dog and it can take time for her to trust new people that she meets however, once she knows you she’s a very bouncy, friendly girl.  She lived with adults and children in her previous home however, she can guard her food and toys and can snatch food from young children’s hands.  Due to this behaviour, we would suggest a home with older children who can understand that she needs her own space.  Lucy lived with another dog who she was good with, but she can bark at strange dogs when out for walks.  She has never met cats or small furries before.  Lucy can pull on the lead and has been used to a harness, her recall is selective when off lead.  She can be quite anxious when travelling in the car and has jumped from the boot into the front.  Lucy likes company and has been known to chew when left alone.  She is crate trained and housetrained.  We that this lovely girl will blossom in the right home.

History

Lucy was handed into the centre for rehoming as her owners felt that they didn’t have enough time for her.

Re-homing Criteria

Lucy needs a patient owner who can help her build her confidence as she can be very nervous.  A home with no young children and an owner who is there most of the time would suit her best.

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Lucy simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Dylan Dylan Dylan

Dylan * Reserved * at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male Black and Silver Malamute who is age 2 years

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/012
Approx Age: 2 years

Description

Unfortunately as Dylan came in as a stray we do not have any information on his past. Dylan is friendly towards most dogs he meets, however he is not suitable to mix with small dogs. He is quite clean in his kennel which suggests he may be house-trained.  We do not know if he has met children, cats or livestock.  His behaviour since coming into the kennels has been very good, he is extremely friendly with everyone he has met, including our Vet.  Dylan loves his belly rubs an is very affectionate.  He can be a little vocal at times but this is the norm for this breed.

History

Dylan was brought to us as a stray. He is microchipped however the current keepers details have not been kept up to date, therefore we cannot track his owner.

Re-homing Criteria

Ideally we would like to re-home Dylan with someone experienced with the breed.  Because of his size and not knowing anything about his past we will not re-home to a family with children under the age of 10 years. He can be predatory towards small animals.

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Dylan simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Bob Bob Bob

Bob at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male Border Collie who is age 2 years 2 months

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/043
Approx Age: 2 years, 2 months

Description

Bob is the typical farm Collie who is nervous meeting strangers due to a lack of socialisation on the farm.  He got on well with the other dogs on the farm but has not met cats.  He did not make the standard for working on the farm, however he will chase after sheep and grab at them.  Any potential adopter would need to be aware of this possibility.  Bob travels well in the car and with some patience and understanding will make someone a good companion. Bob got on well with the owners 7 year old son, but because of his nervous nature we would not recommend him to be re-homed with any children under that age.

History

Bob has been brought to us for re-homing as he is a failed worker.  He was bred on the farm.

Re-homing Criteria

Bob would be best suited to someone with both breed and dealing with lack of socialisation experience

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Bob simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Hero Hero Hero

Hero at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male Dark brindle Crossbreed who is age 2 years

Not Good With Other Pets

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/041
Approx Age: 2 years

Description

Hero has only ever lived with adults.  He was fine with visiting children but did not have much interaction with them.  He does not like cats and will chase them. Hero has taught himself how to open doors, so he can be a bit of an escape artist.  He is fully house-trained. Hero can only be left for short periods alone as he can be very noisy and he can also cause damage in the home.  He loves long walks and walks much better in a harness as he tends to pull a lot on lead..  We have found him to be slightly nervous meeting new people, but he does come around quite quickly.  He also travels well by car.  Hero is a very playful boy but he can be very possessive of his toys.  Hero is very much hit or miss with other dogs.

History

Due to a change in circumstances Hero has been brought to us for re-homing.

Re-homing Criteria

Hero would be best suited to an active, adult only household.

Polo Polo Polo

Polo * Reserved * at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male Dark brindle Bull Lurcher

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 17/171

Description

Polo is an affectionate boy who likes interaction. He is very food focused and we are currently helping him to build some body condition as he could do with putting on some weight. Polo is friendly towards most dogs he meets. He travelled okay in the van over to the centre but we are unsure of his previous car experience. Polo is friendly, full of beans and in need of some TLC and positive, reward based training. He has so much love to give!

History

Polo was collected from vets west of the region where he was found as a stray along with Astra the female lurcher.

Re-homing Criteria

Polo is looking for an owner with sight hound or bull breed experience. He will most likely have a strong predatory chase instinct given his breed, therefore we recommend a home without cats or small fluffy animals. As Polo was a stray, we have no history on what he has been used to regarding children, living indoors or other animals. We recommend a home without young children as he is very greedy and can snatch food out of your hands!

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Polo simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/035
Approx Age: 5 years, 1 month

Description

Cody and Chance are two peas in a pod!  Cody lived with adults in his previous home and never met children.  He can be anxious when meeting new people and can snap so we would suggest a home with no children.  He hasn't come into contact with cats very much but we have been told not to trust him around them.  Cody relies heavily on Chance for companionship which is why we have chosen to rehome them together.  They get on great with each other, but Cody isn’t keen on other dogs that he meets.   He loves travelling in the car and is housetrained.  Cody needs regular grooming unfortunately, he doesn’t tolerate it well and must be muzzled while being groomed.  He is also uncomfortable with close handling and must be muzzled for veterinary examinations.

History

Unfortunately due to the owners ill health Cody & Chance have been brought along to us for re-homing.

Re-homing Criteria

Cody and Chance must be rehomed together!  Cody’s adopter must understand that he finds close handling uncomfortable and has to be muzzled for grooming and when seeing a vet.

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18.036
Approx Age: 7 years, 1 month

Description

Chance can be a little nervous meeting new people but is quite friendly once she has gained your trust.  She is a bit hit or miss with other dogs although she has lived with another dog (Cody) the past few years. Cody relies heavily on Chance for companionship which is why we have chosen to rehome them together. She has not met children and will chase after cats. Her re-call is not too bad but can ignore you if distracted. She has been normally professionally groomed but is not too keen on it and gets her nails clipped by a vet.  She loves attention and travelling in the car. Chance like her walks and pottering about the garden.

History

Unfortunately due to the owners ill health Chance & Cody have been brought along to us for re-homing.

Re-homing Criteria

Chance & Cody must be rehomed together! Chance would ideally suit an older person looking for a companion. She loves that one to one attention and a quiet household. Chance is on prescription food as she had kidney stones removed so future adopters will need to take this into consideration.

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/051
Approx Age: < 1 year

Description

Junior is a gorgeous youngster who is friendly meeting new people. He is a confident pup who loves to play and give affection. Junior is a typical excitable young boy who still has learning. He is very clever though so will catch on quickly! He is so clever, that he even knows how to open some door handles! He may be too  much for small infants, however, with time and training he can learn not to bounce up at people. Junior has not met cats or small furry animals before. Although we are told he has been house trained, he may need a refresher course due to the change of coming into kennels. This handsome boy is still at the chewing stage and as he is a young dog he is not suitable to be left alone. Junior gets quite anxious in the car (drools) as he is not yet used to travelling. He is full of fun and will make a great companion.

History

Junior has been handed into us for rehoming as we were told he was too much for his owner.

Re-homing Criteria

Junior is looking for an active owner, who can commit to his training and exercise. He needs someone who is at home all the time.

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/050
Approx Age: 6 years

Description

Luna is a big, girl with an even bigger personality. She is a typically, vocal malamute and will soon let you know how she is feeling. Luna likes company and will become vocal if left alone. She loves her walks and playing with toys. Luna has come from a home with two other malamutes, however she did not get on that well with the female, and prefers her space. Luna is not keen on young children but will tolerate older children that know to give her space. This gorgeous big girl is strong on lead and can't be trusted near livestock or cats. Luna is very affectionate and loyal!

History

Luna was brought into us for rehoming due to  her owner's ill health.

Re-homing Criteria

Luna requires an owner who has experience with Alaskan Malamutes. She is a vocal girl who does not like to be left, so we are looking for an owner at home most of the time or a home with neighbours who don't mind a malamute singing voice. Luna needs a home without cats and young children.

A Male Grey brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/054

Description

Omar is a delightful older man who is friendly towards everyone he meets. He keeps his kennel clean and likes his food. As Omar came into us as a stray we know nothing about his life prior to coming into the centre. We can tell he is very sociable though and takes everything in his stride. Omar enjoys his walks, although can't go too far as he is a senior citizen. He loves being made a fuss of and getting his back rubbed. Omar can be vocal when he gets excited and likes to show us his seal impression. This gorgeous little staffie will make a fun, affectionate companion!

History

Omar was brought into us by the council as he was found as a stray. He was not microchipped and was not wearing a I.D tag so we can't trace his owner.

Re-homing Criteria

As we are unaware of Omar's history we can't say if he will be okay to live with young children or cats. From what we have seen of his character so far, we feel he could live with another friendly dog.

Shug Shug Shug

Shug at Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A Male White with Black Collie

Good With Children Good With Dogs

Contact Shelter Adoption Form

Shelter Location: Dovecotewell, by Glencaple Dumfries Dumfries and Galloway DG1 4RH

Reference: 18/056

Description

Shug is a gorgeous young pup who despite being deaf, takes everything in his stride. He is a happy, bouncy boy who is full of life. Shug has lived with 2 adults and 1 infant (18months). We are told he was good with the infant he lived with as well as the two female dogs at his house. Shug has only seen a cat from a distance and he didn't come close enough for him to have a proper introduction so we do not know how he would take to felines. Like most young, active pups, Shug can be easily distracted so will need an owner to continue his training. He has been introduced to some sign language in his previous home but this will need to continue as he is still only a puppy who needs lots of guidance. Shug still has the odd accident in the house so his owners will need to be patient and help continue his toilet training. Shug will chase sheep so he needs a secure garden where he won't come into contact with them. He likes his crate and lounging on the sofa.  Shug is very friendly and loves attention.

History

Shug's owner had to hand him in for rehoming as he kept getting out of the garden and into the field with sheep.

Re-homing Criteria

Shug is deaf so will need a patient, owner, ideally one who has had some experience with deaf dogs. He is full of energy and needs plenty of stimulation and training. Shug is looking for a secure garden away from livestock.

Homefinder Questionnaire

If you'd like to help rehome Shug simply complete the Homefinder Questionnaire to get started.

Description

Mika is one energetic girl! She loves everyone she meets and will do anything for some affection. Mika has come from home with adults but met children out and about who we are told she was okay with. She is is house trained and loves her home comforts. Mika is very active and loves her walks. She is strong on lead and walks better on a harness. Mika can be a little unsettled when in the car. This lively girl is nervous of loud noises, and like many dogs, becomes anxious when there are fireworks.
